10/10

Imagine the most perfect rock n roll record you’ve ever heard… well forget it this album probably beats it. Are there better albums out there? Yeah, a few. But no other album is as perfect of a rock album as Led Zeppelin’s fourth album. You immediately start this album with a bang: Black Dog is one of the best album openers of all time, with that call and response dynamic and the dirty riff it immediately hooks you in. The album never really has a dull moment after this; well ok, a few tracks like Four Sticks don’t quite land as hard, but even a song like that is still pretty cool. Everything else on side 1 is perfect: Rock and Roll is just an absolute banger, The Battle of Evermore is this full on LOTR-type folk ballad and I love it for some reason, and Stairway to Heaven, sure it may be abhorrently overplayed but there was a time when you thought it was one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Side 2 is a bit weaker but I still like the songs: Misty Mountain Hop is fun, Four Sticks is kinda cool, Going to California is pretty, but those are all tranced by When the Levee Breaks which is just… one of the greatest songs ever? Like it has the ability to end planets I swear. And what a way to end this album. Overall this is probably my second favorite album of all time and I would certainly call it Led Zeppelin’s magnum opus. An essential listen for anyone interested in music.
