6/10

First of all, this was described as a Gen-z album on Apple Music and then he followed that with singing 1994 (his birth year) and I’m like…. Wait a damn minute? 1994 is millennials! (Laugh out loud- this is just a joke but it did make me giggle). So one thing about Alec Benjamin that I really, really love is that he tells thoughtful stories about real life issues. Bullying, insecurity, family issues, growing up, existential crises, etc. I just think his story telling is so worldly and inspiring. I love relationship music, but it is a breath of fresh air to hear an album that is almost completely inner thoughts and not about a romantic interest. And I’m a romantic at heart saying that. I’m just also a believer that there’s so much more that goes into the human experience beyond that, so it’s refreshing to hear an album talk about those other ideas! I really like the first half of this album (If We Have Each Other-Boy in the Bubble)… and then he kind of loses me. But he does have a very catchy melody in almost all his songs. I think it’s not my ideal vocals/music sound but there’s undeniable talent in his unique story telling and perspective!
