6/10

Yeah, this is good. It's not really my go to genre and the songs kind of run together, but I do enjoy this. I think they have a lot of substance to their writing... but I do think sometimes it can be drowned out by a lot of noise. The standouts to me are Everything You Do, Cruel Power, and I Could Stare At You For Hours. I lowkey think that I Could Stare At You For Hours will join the starting rotation for my favorite love songs. I think it's just really sweet, tender, and earnest. Their music reminds me of a mix of the Avett Brothers (just less depressing and existential), old Noah Kahan, and Ricky Montgomery. I also think that the back half of this album kind of loses me... it feels like they put all their best songs towards the front and the farther we get into the album the more forgettable I find the songs to be. I don't remember I Still Think I Love You, Superior, or I Remember at all. (It's fallen into the folklore trap of putting too many slow songs together at the end- like folklore is my soulmate of course BUT why did Tay put peace and hoax- two extremely slow talk-singing songs next to each other to close the album lol). Anyways, I enjoy this. It's a solid 6/10.
