So I do respect what Conan is doing here. I think this is a very experimental record and think that it's really cool. Does that mean I like it? Unfortunately... no. I wish. I don't dislike it! But it's just not something I really connect with. It's clear the 80s influence in the sound... but I kind of feel like it's at the expense of the lyrics in many of the songs. I respect the vibes and aesthetic he's going for, but I just don't really connect with it. I really like Alley Rose, Winner, and Fainted Love as songs... but everything is either good vibes so I enjoy it enough.. or does nothing for me. I think it was very ambitious for him to make an ode to the sounds and style of the 80s... but the 80s aren't known for their song writing (lyrically speaking) and when your brand is built on deep, introspective, lyrical songs (like Heather, Yours, Family Line, etc.)... this just feels like a step down (even if it was a passion project). I definitely understand why people would like this album... but it's just always been his album I've connected with the least (and I think a lot of people agree with me).
