Well, after apologizing for my assumptions about Ariana Grande, after listening to her two most recent albums, I have to take my apology back. She must have just grown up some in her more recent albums because, yeah, this album is exactly what I THOUGHT Ariana Grande was. It's mostly either really shallow songs about sex/being hot, or it's a mid romance/breakup song that touches on ideas and concepts I've heard a million times. I mean, damn: "It's like I'm the universe and you'll be N-A-S-A/Give you the whole world, I'ma need space" is not the smart little wink to the listeners she thought it'd be. "I can't fake another smile/I can't fake like I'm alright." I've heard that a million times before. I also think I just don't really mess with her music/sound that much. The pop hits sound great, though (thank u, next, break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored). I think she just lacks storytelling, and it's just a lot of "I" (what I'm doing) statements. I think none of the songs are awful (except NASA), but they mostly just bore me to death. Not something I will return to like I return to eternal sunshine and petal. I will say though!!- the thank u, next music video is freaking iconic and is probably one of my favorite music videos ever.
