Aw Justin Bieber, you're so earnest sometimes. I feel like I'm biased to him because I think that deep down there's a tortured poet trapped in there (emphasis on the tortured, not the poet). I feel for the guy. He's had a life to say the least. I don't think this album is anything crazy special, but I enjoyed a lot of it. I don't really enjoy songs that collab unless the collab really sticks out to me, so I feel like some of the songs on here are a little tainted by that, but I digress. I really like I'll Show You, What Do You Mean?, Love Yourself, The Feeling (Halsey collab I do mess with), and Purpose. I love a man who will write about Jesus AND other things. Although I do think this album shares its space for non-remorseful (more glorification of it) sinful writing that kind of confuses me. I just feel like this man is toiling with his convictions and culture. Obviosuly this was written in 2015, but I still think the same now. That makes his perspective (lyrically, musically, story-wise) more interesting for the listener though! I am very interested to see what he's releasing and saying because he is a claimed Christian in a Hollywood and music industry that obviously lacks interest in the good, beautiful, and true. Anyways, off my mini-soap-box. I think this isn't a masterpiece, but it's interesting at the very least. At least there is perspective which I feel a lot of artists lack- I guess some people can't help it that they're just a little bit boring! (Also, Where Are U Now is blocked on Apple Music soooo)
