Visions of Gandhi

2003Hip-hop, Underground Hip Hop1 review

Visions of Gandhi is the third studio album by American underground hip-hop group Jedi Mind Tricks. The album features intricate production by Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind, utilizing grand orchestral samples and Latin-tinged beats to complement Vinnie Paz's aggressive lyrical persona. Fun fact: The album's title was inspired by a line from Foxy Brown's verse on the 1996 Nas track "Affirmative Action," where she raps, "They praise Allah with visions of Gandhi."

Yeah this is way too long, and the production sounds super dated. Vinnie Paz finally is calling himself Vinnie Paz though, but I became desensitized to his violent lyrics very quickly. There's also a ton of homophobia on this one from him, which isn't uncommon in older hip-hop, but there's nothing clever about just spewing the f slur every time you can rhyme it with a word.
