Ye

2018Hip-hop20 reviews

Kanye West's eighth studio album, 'Ye', released on June 1, 2018, delves into his mental health struggles, including bipolar disorder and suicidal thoughts. Recorded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the album features guest appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Cudi, 070 Shake, Charlie Wilson, Jeremih, PartyNextDoor, and Nicki Minaj. The cover art displays the phrase 'I hate being / Bi-Polar / its awesome' over a Teton mountain range, reflecting West's candidness about his condition. Fun fact: The album's title, 'Ye', is a diminutive of West's own name, commonly used in his songs.

Raw and vulnerable experience throughout. Some of Kanye’s deepest cuts of songs if not, his deepest cut yet. Great production as always and very vulnerable lyrics as Kanye opens up on his mental and physical health constraints.

This project is good, but not great. I don't understand the hype on this project. Ghost Town and Violent Crimes are generational, but nothing other than those are better than a 6.5/10.
