Do It Yourself

1997Alternative rock1 review

'Do It Yourself' is the debut and only album by The Seahorses, an English alternative rock band formed by John Squire, former guitarist of The Stone Roses. Released in 1997, the album features the singles 'Love Is the Law', 'Blinded by the Sun', and 'Love Me and Leave Me', the latter co-written with Liam Gallagher of Oasis. The album achieved platinum status in the UK, selling over 300,000 copies. The cover art showcases a photograph of Squire's 1996 sculpture, also titled 'Do It Yourself'. The Seahorses is easily one of the greatest missed opportunities to be something incredible and iconic. I wish it hadn't all gone tits up, because this is a really solid album with great musical and lyrical direction. John definitely works better when he's lined up with a group to solidify his ideas. And Chris Helme was a great addition/co-leader of the group.
