Radical Optimism (Extended Versions)

2024Dance-pop1 review

Released in June 2024, 'Radical Optimism (Extended Versions)' offers a deeper dive into Dua Lipa's third studio album, expanding the neo-psychedelic and dance-pop landscapes of the original record. The extended mix emphasizes the heavy basslines and synths crafted by its star-studded production team, which includes Tame Impala's Kevin Parker and Danny L Harle. Fun fact: Upon the release of these extended cuts, some fans speculated online that this was actually the original version of the album before label modifications!

Easily my favorite version of this album. There aren't really any new lyrics, but all of the instrumentals are extended, and lyrics are repeated. It's just nice to hear modern pop songs that are given room to breathe and build up. A couple of the songs are maybe a bit too long (looking at you Falling Forever), but whatever.
