The Pink Lavalamp is the debut studio album by American hip hop recording artist Charles Hamilton, self-released on December 8, 2008 [The Pink Lavalamp (album)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pink_Lavalamp_(album)). Originally intended to be his major-label debut on Interscope Records, Hamilton released the project independently for free after refusing the label's demand to include his hit single "Brooklyn Girls" on the tracklist [Charles Hamilton Will Re-Release 2008 Debut ‘The Pink Lavalamp’ on Vinyl – DJBooth](https://djbooth.net/features/2018-03-01-charles-hamilton-pink-lavalamp-vinyl/). Fun fact: Hamilton recorded the album in 2006 during a period of homelessness, describing the closing track "Shinin" as an aborted suicide letter [Charles Hamilton - The Pink Lavalamp Lyrics and Tracklist](https://genius.com/albums/Charles-hamilton/The-pink-lavalamp)!
