All Around the World

1998Alternative Rock1 review

Released on January 12, 1998, "All Around the World" is Oasis' longest single, lasting 9 minutes and 38 seconds. It topped the UK Singles Chart, becoming the longest song to do so, and also reached number one in Ireland. The track is known for its grandiose production, featuring string and horn arrangements, and is followed by the instrumental "All Around the World (Reprise)" on the album. Fun fact: The song's music video was inspired by The Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," showcasing the band's journey in a yellow spacecraft.

Another mostly incredible pack of songs, only let down by the near-awful, remarkably lazy cover of "Street Fighting Man" by The Rolling Stones. "The Fame" and "Flashbax" complement "All Around the World" to such ridiculous extremes that it's another example of two tracks that very easily could've been saved for an album on their own right. Just amazing.
