Darnit, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I fear I wasn't. It was exactly what I expected. The songs that were on the radio are still bangers and if I've never heard it before it's because it's pretty mid. Even the radio hits aren't like smart or deep cuts, they're just really good pop songs (which does deserve credit). (Shoutout Levitating for keeping drivers license and the whole Sour era for Olivia Rodrigo on its toes). I really think that (like I said) the hits are really well done pop songs, but everything else gets lost in translation. Cool, Pretty Please, Hallucinate, Good In Bed, Fever, Prisoner, etc. all get lost in between the hits and just don't connect with me in any substantial way. I do really love Boys Will Be Boys which is not really a hit on the album. I would actually say that's kind of the only song on the album with anythnig to say at all and that makes it feel really out of place. Everything else is break up or hot girl bops (or in between), so that one just feels random on here. But it's probably the highlight of the album for me. (Although I think it could use some nuance on that topic, the lyric about kids doing what they see on tv SHOULD be the main point and it's unfortuntely a little lost in the feminist anthem).
