Manger on McNichols

2020Jazz Rap, Experimental Hip Hop1 review

Manger on McNichols is a deeply personal collaborative studio album by American rapper Boldy James and producer Sterling Toles, focusing on James's Detroit upbringing. The record stands out for its rich, live jazz instrumentation layered over boom-bap foundations. Fun fact: The album's recording process spanned over a decade, beginning in Toles's makeshift basement studio in 2007 and finishing in 2018.

Probably Boldy’s best and haven’t listened to it heavy in like 3 years. The production is just incredible, and Boldy is actually putting effort into his rapping here, and he’s great. This really jsut reminded me again of why I used to love Boldy.
