First of all, Headed North and Paid Time Off are two of the worst things that I’ve ever had the displeasure of listening to. Moving on. Do I like noah kahan because he’s good… or because everyone else likes him? Do I like noah kahan because he’s good… or because all his songs are really catchy? Questions I was consistently asking myself while listening. I think I’m landing on… the vibe is really cinematic which lulls me into liking the music and honestly I find it difficult to hear what he’s saying so I kind of just vibe until the chorus hits. Credit where it’s due though! I definitely do really like a lot of songs on this album (and while I can’t pinpoint if it’s because they’re objectively good or if it’s because they’ve been all over my Instagram… I still do like it either way). I especially love All Them Horses (ughhh), Haircut, Dashboard, Porch light, and American Cars. I have to say… I simultaneously get and don’t get the orbiter hype. I think it is cute and good but also at the same time…. How many millions of times have we compared isolation to aliens/the moon/outer space etc. It just feels like a cute song stuck with a used concept. But that’s the most successful song on the album sooo maybe I’m wrong (jk I never think I’m wrong haha). Overall, very cinematic folky-pop vibe that i definitely mess with BUT don’t necessarily connect with? None of the songs emotionally devastate (or make me intensely feel any emotion except maybe movie-feeling thrill) excluding All Them Horses. That song is amazing. Overall, I see the appeal. I think I’m being tricked into thinking he’s a lot deeper than he is though.
