And I would like to come out and say that I think WI$H LI$T and CANCELLED! are bad songs and I do not desire to listen to either of them ever again. Anyways, on with the review! Am I biased towards Taylor and should I be meaner to this album.... maybe? I really don't know. The thing is... this album isn't really trash... it's just trash compared to Taylor's normal standard. I think the thing that disappointed people the most is that we thought we were gonna get a glimpse of what life on tour was like and what it is like to be a showgirl... and then we really didn't. Even the title track doesn't feel fully like what I expected at least. Like I thought this was gonna be an album full of Clara Bows and then we were given corny love and/or hate songs. I don't even think this album is BAD and I actually think it's somewhat cohesive... but the marketing people (who I generally think do SO well with Taylor) did not cook. The album should've been marketed as a love album- not a culture commentary!! I truly don't think this is a BAD album and it's more to me just a poor judgement on the imagery and big ideas. Like we thought we were getting sequins and secrets and instead we got a song about Travis Kelce's dick (no wonder he LOVED the album- she does it justice I suppose) and a song about wanting to live in a neighborhood with all your kids and dogs and a basketball hoop. Nothing wrong with those songs and those ideas... but those are not SHOWGIRL ideas. Should've just been called The Fate of Ophelia and been a love album about Travis Kelce finding her post two tragic breakups and while she was on tour. AND did the Encore save it? No, I'm fear not. Honestly? Feels like a ploy for a Grammy to me. Is this objectively bad? No! But for Taylor's standard, I just don't think it's up to par. I do really like Patient Zero though (that melody is ALWAYS in my head). But the encore still doesn't add to the theme of the album in the way I wanted. Great, she's in love. Tell me more, babe
